MEMBERS MEETING

September 7, 2006

Vice President Keith Carter called the meeting to order at 7:04 pm

 

11 members were present.

 

Secretary’s Report: (Bob Waters). The August minutes were approved with minor editorial corrections.

 

Interim Treasurer’s Report: (Larry Bomar). No report

 

Committee Reports:

   Communications – Duke Walker

      Sponsors of the Mountain View Festival purchased an ad in NewsGrass.

Grassified ads (musical instruments for sale) made its debut in the August edition of NewsGrass.

 

      Yahoo News Group – Mike Albert no report

         Everything running smoothly.

 

   Activities – Gordon Jones and John Gay

MABA Annual Picnic will be held on Saturday September 16th at the Mid-South Baptist Conference Center at Rocky Point. Eric Mitchell will prepare chicken and barbecue. Hot dogs and hamburgers will also be provided. Members asked to bring drinks and side dishes. Will need members to help with the clean up after the picnic.

 

Keith announced that John Gay told him Riverfest is still underway on Saturday October 14th between 10:00 to 5;00. Interested bands should arrange with John for time slots.

 

   Regulatory – James Johnson

      James indicated that we are lying low and keeping out of sight; flying under the radar.

 

James indicated that we needed to appoint a nominations committee for selection of new officers for 2007; the nominating committee will consist of the four board members and three non-board members. Nominees will be announced at the October meeting.

 

 

   Membership – Maureen Fitzer

Keith announced that 3 new members joined MABA in August. We currently have 233 paid-up members;

 

   Education Steve Craig (no report)

      Steve Craig and Bob Waters will do a bass beginners and intermediate workshop in October.

      Tom Hood will continue to teach an advanced guitar chords on the 1st Saturday of the month, continue to provide a fiddle workshop the 3rd Saturday of the month.

 

   GRASS – Beth Mays

Beth will send a check for $500 to Reelfoot Rural Ministries as part of our GRASS commitment.

Beth received 30 Health kits that she distributed to the United Methodist Corp of Relief (UMCOR). Good job MABA members!

 

   Lucy Opry – Beth Mays and Woody Marshall

Beth announced that 120 tickets have already been sold to Blue Highway.

 

   Welcoming/Caring – Loyce Smith, Jo Edith & James Hudson, Erna Wheeley

Two cards were sent out this month.

 

Old Business:

The First Baptist Church Finance Committee will vote on September 14th as to whether they will approve hosting MABA Saturday jams.

 

A motion was made and passed to hold the MABA monthly members meeting at 11:00 am at First Baptist Church, contingent upon approval of the move to First Baptist Church.

 

A motion was made and passed to hold the MABA monthly members meeting on the second Saturday of the month.

 

MABA President John Fitzer will write a letter of thanks to Pastor White for allowing MABA to use Lord of Life Lutheran Church the past three years.

 

Bob Waters reminded the members that we discussed giving a monetary gift to the custodian at Lord of Life at Christmas, and he suggested that we give the gift when we move from Lord of Life to First Baptist Church.

It was reported that there was a good turnout (~100 people) at the Ruffin Theater in Covington last Saturday.

 

Ghost River and Single Tree will play at the Germantown Festival next weekend.

 

John Gay is working on acquiring a room at SPBGMA for MABA.

 

New Business:

 

Duke Walker will arrange to have a photographer-friend take a group picture of our members during the MABA picnic in September.
