President Sam Ketchum called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm.

Activities –
John Gay:
At this time the MABA fall picnic is set for Saturday, October 1 at Shelby Farms.
Riverfest
is set for October 15, 2005.
Planning is underway. At
this time 10 bands have volunteered.
Tom Whittington is working with the editor of the downtown appeal
section of the Commercial Appeal to have a story featuring downtown and midtown
residents appearing at Riverfest. There was discussion concerning doing an
ad for Riverfest. John is going to check and see if
Peter Smith reported that he served on a committee with James Johnson and Woody Marshall to solicit bands to play at the Ducks Unlimited festival on September 17 and 18. The band schedule is as follows:

Sam reported that Lea Talley is working to provide entertainment at shelters for hurricane victims at shelters here.
Regulatory – No report
Membership – 7 new members and 4 renewals for August. 283 paid members and 10 honorary members for a total of 293 members.
We have received the Discovering Bluegrass DVD produced by IBMA. We are in the process of distributing them.
There was discussion concerning the scholarship program of the Jackson Area Plectral Society. We will look at doing something similar in MABA next year.

New Business:.
Harry McLellan reported that Claire Lynch will conduct a songwriters’ workshop on February 11, 2006 from 2-5. The cost will be $50. The number of students will be a minimum of 12 and a maximum of 20. The location of the workshop will be determined later.
Larry Bomar reported that the management of WQOX has requested that the Farm and Poultry Show get sponsors for their radio show. Larry is going to check and see what MABA can do to support the show.
Sam Ketchum reported that our bylaws require that a nominating committee be convened to submit a slate of candidates at the October meeting. The committee consists of the four officers, Lonnie Gaither, Jeannie Gentry and Glenn Malchow.
Larry Bomar suggested that on holiday weekends that it might be a good ideal to delay the members meeting by a week to increase attendance.
