MEMBERS MEETING 

Minutes June 3, 2004

 

President Bob Waters called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm.

19 members present. 

 

Secretary’s report: (Pat Cooper) Accepted with corrections

 

Treasurer’s  report: (Craig Yarbrough) Accepted as read.

Gary Awards have been purchased.

Discussion on policy for paying back the initial cost of Kroger Gift Cards and whether these should be deducted from the General Fund. Motion made and: The amount of the gift cards ($5/card X 100 cards) should be paid for out of monies received from the Kroger rebates.

 

Committee reports:

Membership: Helen Davis.

Total members: 239 paid, 7 new members =246

Helen will meet with and/or e-mail Fan a copy of the membership list as well as get Fan remaining supplies for mailing of Newsgrass. Fan has agreed to take-over Newsgrass mailings and the membership list.  Helen is continuing as Membership chairperson.

    There are 160 signed-up for the newsgroup

 

Newsgrass: Mark Winborn

Mike Kisner described the printing and publishing process and was complimented again on the continued improvements to the newsletter.

Wayne informed us that some of the Newsgrass ads have not been paid yet and asked about invoicing. Motion made and passed: Invoices will be sent to all individuals and groups that have currently have unpaid adds. Mark Winborn agreed to send the invoices.

Commercial Appeal: Wayne sent photos of some of the bands and information to the Commercial Appeal. He awaits their response.

 

Education: (Cliff Albright)

Cliff is working on ways to solve the overcrowding problem with Slow Jam. Slow Jam has become so popular that participants are reluctant to leave and try new groups. A suggestion was made to partition Slow Jam into the very beginners and the more-advanced beginners.

Discussion whether the education budget needed some adjustment. It was decided to leave the budget as is for now to assure there is allowance for growth and opportunity.

 

Activities: Glenn Malchow

Discussed possible dates for the picnic and Fall Festival. Will try to lock-in a date for Fall Festival, and Glenn will work around that date for the MABA picnic.

 

Regulatory: James Johnson

No report tonight.

 

 

 

G.R.A.S.S. Bonnie Dumas

Bake sale on May 1st at BPAC was a success.

Next meeting July 10th.

Gift bags for Ave Marie Residential Care Facility will be made at the July meeting (July 10th).

Musicians needed for on July 17th from 2-4 pm at the Ava Marie Residential Care Facility. July 17th.

Musicians will also be need for a similar event at the VA Hospital. Date and time are currently being planned.

 

Lucy Opry: Beth Mays

Mark Newton Concert has sold 50 tickets to date.

Cedar Hill will appear Aug 7th.

 

New Business:

A Ducks Unlimited weekend is scheduled for June 4, 5 & 6th with 9-10 hours of bluegrass. This is an opportunity for MABA to gain exposure and to receive compensation for playing. Nine bands have committed to play. Craig Yarbrough outlined details of the event. Plans for parking, entry, breaks, etc. were discussed in further detail. Craig was commended for doing an outstanding job in setting up this event, negotiating a contract, and making arrangements.

 

CPR training for interested members will be held on June 19th, from 9-12 am at a cost of $25 per person.  Others sessions will be planned if the interest is there. See Bob Waters for more details and sign-up. A motion was made and passed to subsidize the cost of the CPR training by $10 per person, leaving the remaining $15 to be paid by the member. Motion was made and passed to use the education fund to subsidize the CPR cost.

 

Membership list posting: Motion made and passed not to publicly post or distribute the membership list. List information may occasionally be provided to members on a need-to-know basis. This decision will be jointly made by the Membership chairperson and the president.
