MEMBERS MEETING 

Minutes April 1, 2004

 

President Bob Waters called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm.

20 members present.

 

Secretary’s report (Pat Cooper): Accepted with corrections

 

Treasurer’s report (Craig Yarbrough): Accepted as read.

Total members:  214 paid so far, 86 unpaid including 9 honorary

All agreed - newsletter back issues will be given to new members

Yahoo News Group (Mike Albert, absent)

Approximately 150 individuals are signed up for the newsgroup.

 

Website (Keith Carter)

Keith inquired about listing MABA and non-MABA band schedules and festivals on Website. Motion made and passed to limit the listing to events in Arkansas, Mississippi, Missouri, and Tennessee.

 

Newsgrass (Mark Winborn)

Commercial Appeal (Community Section) will provide coverage of the Lucy Opry and MABA.

 

Brochures: Bob has been working on redesigning the brochure

 

Education: (John Gay, absent; report presented by Bob Waters)

 

Hard Drive presented a band workshop that was well attended. Bob Waters thanked the group for their willingness to share their musical talents with our members.

 

Mike Compton will present a mandolin workshop for intermediate and advanced players. Cost ($50). Workshop to be held at the home of Lawrence Fortney. Interested members should contact John Gay.

Discussed picnic dates and fall schedule.

Arlington Festival will be held on April 24th 10:00 am to 4:30 pm

 

Regulatory:  (James Johnson, absent)

 

GRASS: (Bonnie Dumas)

Bake sale will be held on May 1st at the BPAC festival.

 

LUCY OPRY: (Beth Mays)

Just today, we sold 100 tickets for the Tim O’Brien show on May 1st

 

New Business:

Fall festival – Jim Phillips stated that the Monroe Festival is targeted for Sept 24th.  Catfish festival is no longer a competing event.

 

Bunny Run will be held on April 10th at Audobon Park. This event is fund raiser for Special Kids and we need MABA musicians.

 

Ducks Unlimited (DU) weekend is coming up on June 4th. Bob and Craig to arrange for a MABA presence for the event. This is a great opportunity for MABA to gain some exposure. More details to come.

Ed Fleener taught a music theory course at his home to interested MABA members this past month.

Jim Phillips will introduce the 10 rules of jamming to interested MABA members over the coming months.

Bob Waters discussed importance of CPR and proposed offering training to members, all approved.
