President Sam Ketchum called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm.

Newsgrass receiving good comments. New Member commented very highly-

 

Yahoo group-

Six sign-ups with 1 unsubscribe.

Keith added photos to website. Tom took photos at recording.

 

 

 Activities 

John Gay:

 

Riverfest - Oct. 15. note on yahoo to recruit help. Monorail at mud island shuts down at 5:00. Planning for 2 stage set-ups

Set up starts at 8:00 am

Picnic Oct 1- Will reserve spot at Shelby Farms, Ellendale or Freeman park

Ron Sullivan’s Benefit – Delta Blue and Ford, Gentry, and Mays

 

   Regulatory – No report

Education   

Guest speaker John Hall

Bethel College has music scholarships to offer- Students can major in anything.

Working to expand bluegrass at the school -

Jim wants to get a band workshop together.

 

Ladies harmony class tomorrow taught by Sheila Phillips at the home of Diana Ford.

 

Randal Morton to hold banjo workshop later this year.

 

 

Brandon Apple will hold fiddle workshop later this year.

 

Discovering Bluegrass DVD will be ordered to supply local schools/libraries

8 cards were sent to MABA members in July. Bob Williams had triple bypass surgery and is doing well.

 

New Business:

MABA recording – Will is setting up recording studio. Beth would like to have a marathon recording session to get the CD ready for Riverfest. Candice and Larry will do artwork. Cost same as last time- Total $800.00-1000.00 and Ardent is mastering the CD.

 

Sam ordered 2 dozen shirts (old style)- still looking at polo but prices are a bit too high.

 

Do we need liability insurance for events? Will get more details and follow up next month.

 

Membership directory- Still taking requests if member doesn’t want to be listed in directory. Name, Phone, email and instrument will be included on listing.

 

IBMA is holding world of Bluegrass Award show in Nashville Oct. 27-30

MABA members get a discount for registration. Hotels booking up fast – There will be 40-45 bands to play
